Acid Pre-Dosing & pH Control
Managing pH is one of the most important steps in ensuring healthy, productive plants—especially when working with calcareous or high‑alkalinity water sources. Effective pH control begins with acid pre‑dosing, a process that adjusts the irrigation water to an optimal range before it reaches the crop. By lowering the pH, essential nutrients remain soluble and available, preventing the precipitation issues that commonly occur in alkaline conditions.

Why pH Control Matters
Maintaining the correct pH in irrigation water directly influences nutrient uptake, root health, and overall system performance. When pH drifts too high, key nutrients such as iron, manganese, and phosphorus can become unavailable, leading to deficiencies and reduced growth. Conversely, excessively low pH can cause corrosion, emitter blockages, and stress to sensitive root systems.
Benefits of Proper pH Management
-
Improved nutrient availability – Ensures fertilizers remain soluble and accessible to plants.
-
Reduced system blockages – Minimizes scale formation and precipitation in pipes, drippers, and filters.
-
Healthier root zones – Protects roots from pH‑induced stress and supports consistent growth.
-
More efficient fertilizer use – Prevents nutrient waste and enhances overall irrigation efficiency.
Creating a Stable Growing Environment
With the right pH control strategy, growers can maintain a stable, predictable environment that supports vigorous plant development. Automated acid dosing systems, continuous monitoring, and proper calibration all play a role in achieving reliable results and long‑term system health.

Proportional Acid Dosing
Proportional acid dosing is a straightforward and reliable method commonly used on irrigation systems with lower flow rates and relatively stable pH conditions. Because the system doses acid in proportion to the water flow, it can tolerate minor pH fluctuations without requiring complex automation.

When Proportional Dosing Works Best
This approach is ideal for growers who:
-
Operate smaller or low‑flow irrigation systems
-
Have water sources with consistent alkalinity
-
Can accommodate slight variations in pH levels
Key Considerations
While proportional dosing is simple and cost‑effective, it does come with a few limitations:
-
Manual monitoring and adjustment are required to maintain accuracy
-
Lower acid concentrations must be used for safe and consistent dosing
-
Less precise control compared to fully automated pH management systems
-

Why Growers Still Choose It
Despite its limitations, proportional acid dosing remains popular because it is:
-
Easy to understand and operate
-
Highly serviceable with minimal maintenance
-
A dependable solution for systems that don’t require tight pH control

pH Monitoring
When using proportional acid dosing, it’s essential to regularly monitor pH levels to ensure your irrigation water stays within the desired range. To support this, we offer a selection of both handheld and inline pH measurement tools designed to suit different system needs.

Handheld pH Meters
Our handheld pH meters are simple, reliable tools ideal for quick spot checks throughout your system. Compact enough to fit in your pocket, they allow you to easily test pH levels in storage tanks, mixing areas, or at various points along the irrigation line. They’re perfect for growers who want flexibility and fast, on‑the‑go verification.

Inline & In‑Tank pH Sensors
For continuous oversight, our inline (or in‑tank) sensors provide real‑time pH monitoring directly within the irrigation system. These devices constantly measure and display pH levels on a dedicated screen, giving you immediate visibility and allowing for quick adjustments when needed.
Inline sensors can also be integrated with our injection systems, enabling automated acid dosing for more precise and consistent pH control. This creates a seamless, closed‑loop solution that maintains optimal water chemistry with minimal manual intervention.

pH Correction - Circulation System
Our pH correction circulation system is designed for situations where water storage tanks are filled on a timed schedule rather than through level‑controlled filling. In these setups, maintaining consistent pH can be challenging, which is why a dedicated circulation and correction loop provides a reliable solution.

How the System Works
The system continuously draws water from the storage tank and passes it through an injection unit where the pH is measured in real time. Acid is then dosed to bring the water to the required pH level. The treated water is returned to the storage tank, and this circulation process repeats until the entire volume reaches a stable, uniform pH.

Ideal for Mains Water Supply
When using mains water, this approach is particularly beneficial. Because the dosing happens within a closed circulation loop—not directly on the incoming supply—there is no risk of pre‑dosed water flowing back into the mains and causing contamination. This makes it a safe, compliant, and dependable method for pH correction.

Key Advantages
-
Precise pH control through continuous circulation and measurement
-
Safe for mains‑fed systems with no risk of backflow contamination
-
Consistent water quality across the entire storage tank
-
Reliable correction even when fill volumes vary due to timed filling
pH Correction - Night Circulation System - Dosing Rig
Our pH correction night circulation system offers an efficient way to stabilise water pH using your existing feed rig and pumping setup. By adding a dedicated circulation valve, the system draws water from the storage tank, passes it through the dosing rig for pH measurement and correction, and then returns it to the tank—just as it would during normal irrigation.

How It Works
When irrigation is not running, typically at night, the circulation valve activates and routes tank water through the dosing rig. The system measures the pH and automatically adjusts it by dosing acid as required. This process continues until the entire tank reaches the desired, stable pH level.

Key Considerations
Because the system relies on your irrigation rig, circulation can only occur when the system is not irrigating. If the tank is refilled during the day, the pH may drift upward, increasing demand on the rig and potentially preventing the water from reaching the target pH before the next irrigation cycle.

Ideal for Mains Water
This method is particularly suitable for mains‑fed systems. Since dosing occurs within a closed circulation loop rather than on the incoming supply, there is no risk of treated water flowing back into the mains and causing contamination.

Benefits
-
Uses existing equipment for a cost‑effective solution
-
Safe for mains water with no backflow risk
-
Accurate pH correction through controlled night‑time circulation
-
Improves water consistency across the entire storage tank

Inline pH Dosing & Control System
Our inline pH dosing system is the preferred method for achieving accurate and consistent pre‑pH control. Designed for precision, the system injects acid directly into the incoming water line and immediately measures the result using an inline pH sensor. If the pH drifts above or below the target range, the controller automatically adjusts the pump output—either increasing or reducing the dosing rate—to maintain a stable, reliable pH level.

How It Works
The system operates only when water is flowing, ensuring safe and efficient dosing. It can be activated by your filling controller or by detecting active flow, so acid is added only when the system is running. This closed‑loop feedback between the sensor and controller allows for continuous measurement and real‑time correction.

Ideal for Variable Conditions
Because the system constantly monitors and adjusts pH, it is the perfect solution for setups with:
-
Variable flow rates
-
Fluctuating pH levels
-
Changing water quality throughout the day

Key Benefits
-
Highly accurate pH control through continuous feedback
-
Automatic adjustment for stable, consistent results
-
Safe operation with dosing triggered only during active flow
-
Reliable performance even in dynamic irrigation environments
Circulation & Aeration
In addition to effective pH control and acid dosing, it’s essential to keep stored water properly agitated. Continuous movement helps maintain uniform acid distribution, ensures accurate pH readings during fertigation, and improves nutrient availability for the crop. Aeration also introduces oxygen into the water, enhancing nutrient uptake and preventing stagnation—conditions that can otherwise encourage pathogen growth.

Circulation Systems
Our circulation systems use a compact pump to draw water from the storage tank and return it at a lower point, creating a steady mixing and aeration effect. This keeps the water fully blended, prevents stratification, and supports consistent pH levels throughout the tank.
A simple controller allows the circulation pump to run on timed intervals, switching on and off throughout the day or night to save energy while maintaining water quality. The system can also be adapted to dose disinfectants such as hydrogen peroxide or chlorine dioxide, helping to keep the water free from pathogens.

Aeration Systems
For larger tanks, lakes, or reservoirs, our aeration systems provide an efficient way to oxygenate stored water. Using diffusers and an air pump, the system releases fine micro‑bubbles from the bottom of the tank, increasing dissolved oxygen levels and promoting a healthier water environment.

Aeration helps:
-
Prevent algae growth
-
Reduce disease pressure
-
Improve nutrient absorption by plants
-
Maintain overall water quality in large‑volume storage

Tailored to Your Storage Setup
Every circulation and aeration system is specified based on the size, depth, and layout of your water storage. This ensures optimal performance, efficient energy use, and consistent water quality across the entire volume.
